AMD processor plans for 2021: Zen and K12 for all market segments
One of the sources close to Advanced Micro Devices published on one of the forums the company’s plans for the release of microprocessors for personal computers and mobile devices in 2021. If the slides describing AMD’s intentions are genuine, and the company manages to bring all of its plans to life, next year we will see a whole family of processors based on the Zen microarchitecture, as well as at least one chip based on the ARMv8 K12 cores.
According to the published information, the AMD Zen microarchitecture will be used not only for high-performance “classic” CPUs and hybrid processors with an integrated graphics core (accelerated processing unit, APU), but also for systems on a chip intended for use in low-cost, low-cost devices. For portable devices such as tablets and PCs in 2-in-1 form factor AMD intends to offer new highly integrated ICs based on K12 cores, compatible with the ARMv8-A instruction set.
