Ericsson Demonstrated the “Human” Connected Me Interface
sixteen.05.2021 [11:48],

Modern technologies allow you to transfer data in a variety of ways, there are wired and wireless protocols. It would seem that now it is enough to develop existing solutions, increase data transfer speed and reduce energy consumption. However, Ericsson engineers believe that a fundamentally new solution does not fit either. They demonstrated a way to transmit data through the human body.

The first demonstration of the new Connected Me technology took place back at CES in January this year, but the decision remained unnoticed by the general public. Ericsson CEO Hans Vestberg personally demonstrated the capabilities of Connected Me by holding a mobile phone in one hand and grabbing a sensor connected to an audio system with the other. A digital signal passed through Mr Westberg’s body, and an MP3 file from a mobile phone played on large speakers. Since then, the technology has been shown at other major events, including the Mobile World Congress and CTIA Wireless, but Connected Me is not yet a major event.

For Ericsson, this technology is one of several projects designed to prove that the Swedish company is more than a provider of telecommunications and wireless equipment. The human body contains a large percentage of water, so it can freely work as a conductor, and the working voltage of Connected Me is low enough that a person simply does not feel it.

According to the developer, the technology can be effectively used with existing solutions. For example, with a fingerprint scanner: a person touched the scanner, was authenticated and immediately received the requested data on their smartphone. Connected Me chips will hit the market within 12-18 months, Ericsson suggests they could appear on smartphones, personal computers, TVs and printers. The developer, for his part, will limit himself to only licensing his technology.
