The second attempt to stop the air leak on the ISS with duct tape failed
An attempt to eliminate the air leak by sealing the area of the docking station in the compartment of the Russian Zvezda module on the International Space Station with tape was unsuccessful. The pressure inside the compartment continues to decrease gradually. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the negotiations of the Russian cosmonauts with the flight control center.

On Thursday, the Moscow Region Mission Control Center asked cosmonaut Ivan Wagner to “seal up with tape as much as possible” the area of the docking station, which is located in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module, where the leak was detected. This docking port is used when manned spacecraft Soyuz and cargo Progress dock at the ISS.
This morning, the astronaut opened the hatch to the problem compartment and reported to the flight control center that the pressure in it was 715 mm Hg. When the compartment was closed on Thursday, the pressure in it was 732 mm Hg. It was also noted that these are not the last pressure readings in the compartment, since the GoPro camera used to fix the readings of the pressure gauge prematurely turned off due to a loose connection with the cable of the portable battery.
Recall that a small air leak on the ISS was detected in September 2021. This year, its speed has increased from 270 g to 1.4 kg per day. Because of this, in August-September, the crew closed the hatches in the ISS modules twice in order to check them for leaks. As a result, it was possible to establish that the leak is located in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module. According to available data, the rate of pressure drop on the ISS is equal to 1 mm Hg in 8 hours. Roscosmos is confident that this does not pose a threat to the station’s crew and does not interfere with further flight in manned mode.
As a reminder, last weekend the Russian cosmonauts have already tried to fill the gap in the intermediate chamber of the Zvezda module with scotch tape.
