EVGA Releases BIOS for GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra with TDP Increase to 450W
EVGA Releases New vBIOS Version for GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra Graphics Cards. The new microcode increases the maximum power consumption of the video card from 400 to 450 W. It should be said right away that the option is not intended for ordinary users, but for computer enthusiasts who are fond of overclocking computer components, and does not guarantee an increase in performance.

“Due to numerous requests, we have released a new beta version of the BIOS that increases the maximum threshold for power consumption. This BIOS version is designed for extreme overclocking enthusiasts only and does not make any other changes to the card settings. Please note that the new BIOS version increases power consumption when overclocking the performance of the video card, so before using it, make sure that you have an adequate cooling system, as well as a power supply with a minimum capacity of 850 W and with an 80+ Gold efficiency certificate. EVGA does not promise any performance or overclocking enhancements with this BIOS update, ”said Jacob Freeman.
For any additional questions, Freeman advised contacting the official forum of the company.
The EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 has become the second graphics card model on the market after the GeForce RTX 3080 ROG STRIX OC from ASUS to offer this TDP rating with the increase of the power consumption limit to 450W. Recall that the card itself is equipped with a massive three-slot cooling system with three fans and three 8-pin connectors for additional power. The GPU frequency of the Ultra version of the card for which the new BIOS has been released is 1800 MHz. For comparison, the frequency of the GPU GeForce RTX 3080 ROG STRIX OC is 1935 MHz.
An EVGA spokesperson also shared instructions on how to install the new BIOS version for the GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra graphics card in a Windows environment. We advise you to do this only if you understand what you are doing and why. And of course, you do this only at your own peril and risk:
- Download the correct ZIP file for your graphics card (links provided below);
- Extract files to media;
- Make sure that no programs are running in the background, and then double click on the Update file.exe;
- Press the “Y” key on the keyboard after the program request and start updating;
- It is very important: do not turn off or restart the computer during the BIOS update process;
- After the update is finished, restart the computer.

Explanation: The video card supports two BIOS versions. There is a special switch on the board. One version is designed to operate the graphics accelerator in normal mode with standard settings, the second version is designed to work in overclocking mode (OC).
