Robots will occupy half of the jobs in five years, but thanks to this, new vacancies will appear
21.10.2021 [14:09],
Gennady Detinich

In five years, more scientists and engineers will be needed than accountants and mechanics, experts from the World Economic Forum said. The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic will further exacerbate the labor situation. Most will have to relearn. But there is good news too.

A study by the World Economic Forum, the data of which was released in London, examined the state of affairs in the 300 largest companies in the world. Most employers are confident (over 50%) that enterprise automation will accelerate in the near future. At the same time, 43% of managers believe that this will also lead to job cuts.

WEF analysts agree that automation will radically change production processes and relationships. But there will be more than just cuts. With due efforts on the part of the authorities, business and the workers themselves, it will be possible not only to keep people working, but even to increase the number of jobs.

So, experts expect that by 2025, half of the work will be performed by automation (computers or robotic lines). Automation will reduce the need for people by 85 million jobs, but at the same time, 97 million new jobs will be created, which will add 12 million open positions for those who have mastered new specialties.

People will not be needed for jobs such as data entry, secretarial positions, accounting, auditing, assembly and other low-skilled work in the factory, management activities (management), customer support and support, general and production managers, mechanics for the repair and maintenance of equipment, warehouse workers.

At the same time, new jobs will be created for people in specialties related to data analysis and scientific development, specialists in artificial intelligence and machine learning, in big data, process automation, business development, digital transformation, information security, software and applications. as well as the Internet of Things. At least white-collar workers, office workers, can survive the transformation with less losses, while blue-collar workers, people with working specialties, will have to radically change the working environment, which is more difficult to survive.

Automation now covers about a third of the world’s jobs. Some countries have more, others less. If a society is already at a high level of automation, it will survive its deepening with less losses. In developing countries, where the share of low-skilled labor is disproportionately higher, learning new skills will be more difficult and not without social shocks. According to WEF experts, the window of opportunity is closing much faster than ever before. The coronavirus pandemic further aggravates the processes in life and the economy. As is often the case, it was necessary to act yesterday, and in fact they had not even started yet.
