HPE moves headquarters from California to Texas
The pandemic, with its forced shift to remote work, has forced many employers to rethink the need to maintain office buildings in expensive areas. Some companies have decided to move from Silicon Valley to areas with cheaper infrastructure. The latest example is HPE, which has decided to move its headquarters to Austin, Texas.

Until now, Hewlett Packard Enterprise was headquartered in San Jose, California, and had a presence in the San Francisco Bay Area. The company was formed in 2021 through the division of Hewlett Packard, which originated in 1939 in Palo Alto, California. This week, one of the long-term residents of Silicon Valley announced its decision to move its headquarters to the administrative center of Texas – Austin, where HPE already has about 2,600 employees.
HPE representatives announced this at the quarterly reporting conference. How many employees will be affected by the move is not specified, but HPE promises to do without layoffs. HPE Research Center will remain in San Jose, while core administrative functions will be moved to Austin. Employees from other HPE divisions scattered across California will move to the vacated areas in San Jose. This will reduce the cost of maintaining and renting office real estate in one of the most expensive states in the country.
In the past quarter, HPE managed to keep revenue approximately at the level of the same period last year – $ 7.21 billion, although this result exceeded analysts’ expectations. In the current quarter, the company expects to generate $ 6.84 billion, which is consistent with the seasonal decline, but in this case, it exceeds market expectations. The company specializes in providing services to the corporate sector, which is facing contradictory trends amid the pandemic; since the beginning of the year, HPE shares have lost 29% in price, the publication of the quarterly report did not have much impact on the dynamics.
