IKEA furniture will focus on charging smartphone batteries

It is already known that IKEA will offer furniture items that will allow you to charge mobile gadgets without a wired connection. Modules will be built into the tabletops and lamp stands to transmit energy wirelessly. Life will become easier, life will become more fun. Since smartphone manufacturers are in no hurry to reduce the consumption of devices in order to charge gadgets less than once a day, then they can at least provide an opportunity for “transparent” recharging of batteries – threw it on the table and forgot. However, until the technology reached “just threw it away” – the smartphone must be placed in a certain and rather narrow range of the energy transmitter. But there is one more limitation – this is the maximum transmission power.

Recently it became known that energy transmitters based on the development of IDT (Integrated Device Technology) will be built into IKEA furniture – these are P9030 transmitters. The rated transmit power of the P9030 is 5W. This power is enough to recharge the batteries of smartphones, but it will obviously not be enough to charge the batteries of tablets (at least for models of medium and high performance). By the way, IDT has a new development – the P9240 transmitter and the P9022A receiver, which can transmit and receive already 10 watts of energy. In the future, we recall that the Qi standard, which the above-mentioned IDT products are focused on, will provide energy transfer at the level of 50 W.

IKEA Products with 5W Qi Power Transmitters Coming Soon in the US and Europe. It remains to add that the transmission efficiency in the Qi standard exceeds 50%. This is because the Qi standard relies on simple electromagnetic induction. Competing standards – Rezence and PMA – work on the basis of electromagnetic resonance, which is more efficient and makes it possible to separate energy receivers and transmitters up to 3 cm. This is not yet “just threw”, but already “put down without aiming”. Hopefully the IKEA initiative will be a good example for other companies.
