Photo of the Day: AMD Trinity-Powered Compal Reference Slim Laptop

Konstantin Khodakovsky

AMD recently unveiled its very interesting Trinity mobile hybrid processors, thanks to which, hopefully, there will be a lot of very attractive in terms of price and performance laptops on the market that can provide good performance in everyday tasks and acceptable frame rates in modern games.

I am especially pleased with the presence of 17-W and 25-W models, the performance of the first of which is promised on the damage of the 35-W Llano chips of the previous generation – these are very good indicators for thin laptops, for which a 17-W processor is designed.

With Intel’s vigorous Ultrabook promotion, AMD’s thin notebooks are sure to get a lot of consumer attention. Sunnyvale showcases a reference ultra-thin laptop from contract manufacturer Compal during Trinity announcement. The thickness of the device is at the level of ultrabooks, although the body of the model is not perfect and is made of plastic. Despite the minimal thickness of the case, the computer is capable of displaying images in 1080p resolution on two external displays, while simultaneously displaying the image on its LCD screen.

AMD expects first commercial notebooks based on Trinity chips to hit the market starting June 3rd. The company claims that “all leading manufacturers”, including Toshiba, HP and Samsung, are preparing their solutions based on Trinity processors – be it laptops, ultra-thin mobile computers, desktops, all-in-ones or hybrid solutions.
