OmniVision Introduces World’s First Mobile 64MP Image Sensor With Large 1-μm Pixels
This year, OmniVision has already released two 64-megapixel sensors for smartphones – OV64B (with a pixel size of 0.7 μm) and OV64C (with a pixel size of 0.8 μm). But miniaturization means less light hitting the sensor, so now there is an OV64A sensor with larger 1μm pixels.
As is customary today, the Quad Bayer structure is used (a method of placing Bayer filters to cover not individual pixels, but cells of four light-sensitive elements) with a hardware demosaicing algorithm to improve energy efficiency. Like other similar matrices, the novelty can display images both in 64 megapixels (9248 × 6944 pixels) and in 16-megapixel mode with improved light sensitivity and dynamic range (in the latter case, the quad-pixel size is 2 microns).
The physical size of the 64-megapixel OV64A is 1 / 1.34 “- about the same as that of modern 108-megapixel matrices with 0.8-micron pixels.
