Ukraine will soon start building two of Europe’s largest wind farms
According to local Internet resources, Ukraine plans to implement two of the largest projects in Europe to generate electricity from the power of the wind. One project is run by Norwegians and the other by Chinese. The Norwegians plan to build a complex in the coastal zone on the territory of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine, and the Chinese – on the territory of two districts of the Donetsk region.
The complex of wind farms “Zophia” on the territory of the Zaporozhye region of Ukraine is estimated at 1.22 billion euros ($ 1.45 billion). The design capacity is 792.5 MW or about 1.8 million MWh of electricity per year, which should be enough to provide electricity for 340 thousand. households. It is reported to be the largest onshore wind farm in Europe to date.
The complex will consist of more than 160 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines with masts 122–127 m high and an impeller (rotor) diameter of 145–155 m. Each installation can provide a capacity of 5-6 MW. Construction work is promised to begin in December, but given the beginning of winter, the active phase of work can only start next spring. The project is promised to be commissioned in 2023. It will employ 500 people during the construction phase and will create 150 jobs for plant operators upon startup.
The Norwegian company NBT, which promises to bring the project to life, is relatively young, but already has experience in the construction of three complexes of wind farms in China. NBT only works with developing countries, which allows you to make good money at a fairly high level of risk.
The Chinese project costs $ 1 billion and promises to build an 800 MW wind complex on the territory of the Mangush and Nikolsky districts of the Donetsk region. There are no details, but Chinese companies have already taken root in Donbass and we can say with a high degree of confidence that the project, at least, will begin to be implemented, probably as early as next year. The Ukrainian company WindFarm and the Chinese Power China will master the funds and manage the construction.
WindFarm says new wind farms will not need a green tariff to demonstrate the benefits of renewable energy. In any case, Ukraine is reducing “green” tariffs, for example, this summer, the preferential tariff for electricity generated by the Sun was reduced by 15%, and for that generated by the wind – by 7.5%.
